Party Foul: Bad Invitations

It's hard not to judge an event by it's invitation..oh wait, because people do.
Your invitation should be the preview to your event's color scheme, decor, & overall theme.
So basically they're important! Making a mistake on your invites can be a huge problem, especially when your guests notice.

Ask me how I know this.....
I spelled my own Father's name wrong on my wedding invites

( i know try not to cry for me, you can laugh though)

Here are a few tips to help with your invites:

1. Spell & Grammar Check

So you WERE engaged?
Guests may be officially confused. Must send a second announcement to clear up the first.
I've seen this annoucement countless times on the web, and everytime I do I cringe.
It's sad because it's such a darling idea!

Mmmm I'll take the trout with a side of children.

Read it in your head, Read it aloud, AND have someone else read it, hopefully that will catch it.

2. Try Not to Make Guests Uncomfortable

Not all of us want to play a controversial game to see if we should come or not.
Based on that some might not attend

3. Be Yourselves

Just a simple thought not to confuse your guests.
We get you are super fans but you may regret this in the future.

Inspiration: Fall

 Fall is here!
It wasn't until last week when all the recipe sites I follow had fall inspired dishes which got me so excited! I love the weather change and all the colors that come with that.

Here is our inspiration board for a fall inspired event:

Party Foul: DIY Beware

I will no longer hold my silence. I've seen many posts in the blog world and inspiring photos on pinterest on what I am going to tell you all. Let me set up my vent session first...
I love parties.
I love food at parties.
I absolutely live for creative and darling food displays.
So hear me out:
DIY cakestands & food platters
HAVE TO BE FOOD SAFE!

I have seen sooooo many adorable projects on the web that are a little vague on products they used in the projects transformation. Spray paint is not food safe. If you make a platter with a plain plate and a candlestick, bond them and spray paint it the color of your choice, unless you are putting fake fruit, moss balls, or flowers on/in it don't plan on using it for food.

Centsational Girl did it correct right above.

However all your hard work of cooking/baking/decorating for a party can be all a bunch of crap if you compromise it with unsafe toxic chemicals. It's your job as the hostess to make sure fun & safety goes hand in hand at your party. Can you imagine if one of your friend's plus one got sick at your party from something like this and took legal action? (okay worst case scenario i know but these days i wouldn't be surprised!) Here are some things you can do to make these creations work:

1. Use a clear glass plate/platform and place it face down if you are going to spray paint.
This way you still get your custom color, pattern, print and you can place food right on top of it.

2. There are food safe paints.
They are a bit more expensive and you may need to order them online for a more color selection but they're food safe!

3. Explore the world of doilies or napkins.
Dig out granny's paper doilies. This may not go with your party's look or theme but thanks to the web you are not limited to white doilies, they come in all colors.

Also napkins can come in fun colors, patterns & materials but i recommend this for baskets ands trays for bread and other dry foods.

Be creative!
..but also do your research

No one wants waste all their time, effort, & money on something that they safely can't use.

Sugar Luxe: Rock Candy

This candy has been predicted to be the hot party trend of 2012 and i love it.

I love the look of rock candy. It's such a beautiful looking texture, like edible crystal.
Another awesome thing about this treat is its colors can be customized to whatever color theme your party has. Also it is pretty amazing that it works in whatever season.

Clear rock candy looks like ice for a winter wedding & pastels are perfect for spring!

Rock candy completes any sweet station

Adds such a fun texture to cakes.

How awesome is that tufted background. Obsessed.

Perfect cupcake garnish.

 or a fun centerpiece!

Email me if you are looking for customized rock candy, I have a great contact!

Beauty Luxe: makeup for the occasion

It's no secret i love makeup.
It is (in my opinion) one of the most powerful things you can do to make an overall look complete. Whether it's your everyday look or annual jaw dropping one, there is a time & place for every makeup technique. For example:

Bride Look

Lauren does a great job with the "natural" bride look.

I think if you are a bride your makeup should go along with your wedding theme. Now that doesn't mean if your decor colors are red & turquoise your eyeshadow should be..but if you have a destination wedding on the beach, go natural. If vintage decor is present you could rock a subtle pinup look. The main thing is you look like yourself but polished.

Party Look

Subtle Cat Eye

A bit more drama.

No matter the reason for the party have fun with your makeup. If you feel confident and pretty you're more likey to let loose and have a good time. Whats a party without a good cat eye??

Experiment & practice new techniques a few days before your event to fine tune your look..please for your sanity don't try something new & complicated like a smokey eye with eye lashes hours before your party. You will be in no mood to party hard that is for sure!
